Michael Breakey was born in Quebec City in 1947 and lived in the province of Quebec until 1996 when he moved his home base to Kelowna, British Columbia.
He has been an avid photographer since his late teens and spent the early 70’s freelancing for Quebec based newspapers, some of whom have called on his services, on occasion, into this century.
His travel and commercial involvement continue to this day.
His photographic passion, however, remains Landscape & available light portraiture.
Having been an early convert to the digital world, he has given numerous workshops over the years in digital techniques, and his specialties, Photoshop and Lightroom.
He was a founding member of OPAW ( Okanagan Photographic Art Workshops ).
He is also a member of CAPA ( Canadian Association for Photographic Art ) and various other organizations in the photographic and art worlds.
He has been a CAPA Certified Judge since 2001.
He was the national secretary of CAPA for eleven years and stepped down in 2017. He then took over the portfolio of Director of Education, stepping down in 2022 from the CAPA board.
He was awarded the Fellowship honour (FCAPA) in 2009,
and an honourary fellowship (Hon FCAPA) in 2022
He is a life member of CAPA and of his camera club, the Central Okanagan Photographic Society (COPS).
He was on the Lake Country Artwalk organizing committee with the portfolio of the Photography exhibit for almost 15 years stepping down in the fall of 2018.
He is a curator and member of the Canadian World Photographic Cup team since 2017.
He has had, or participated in, more than thirty solo or juried exhibits.
